Central Missouri Chapter History
The Central Missouri Chapter was chartered in June of 1987 with 31 charter members. Some of the charter members included Bill Stubblefied, Stuart Dunkel, Ernest Matson, Robert Crowder, Steven Whitaker, Wayne Duncan, Bill Lange, Charles Bexton, Lynn Stuhlman, Shirley Looten, Doris Dooley, Carol Farris, Anna Duncan, Barbara Walden, Anna Lee, Lana Holmes, Jo Haller, Joyce Benedict, Pamela Buersmeyer, Kathy Nichols, Bonnie Cochran, Linda Calvert and Laura Hunter. The charter ceremony was held at the Flaming Pit in Columbia, Missouri. ARMA International's President Harry Ludwig, was the speaker for the charter event. Because of the proximity to Kansas City, several of ARMA International's headquarters staff also attended the chartering ceremony. At that time, the 31 charter members was the largest beginning number of chapter members with the entire ARMA International organization.
The steering committee that worked to create the chapter included Bob Crowder, Barbara Walton, Stu Dunkel, Wayne Duncan, Steven Whitaker, and Bill Lange. Barbara Walden of Union Electric (Now Ameren UE) was elected the chapter's first president. Steven Whitaker wrote the chapter's constitution and by-laws with assistance from Bob Crowder and Wayne Duncan. Due to the even number of members located in Jefferson City, Fulton and Columbia, monthly chapter meetings alternated between Guthrie, Jefferson City and Columbia. By 1989, the membership of the chapter had grown to 48 members before leveling off. In this time period chapter members came from Booneville, Moberly, Mexico, Fulton, Jefferson City and Columbia. In 1993, the chapter decided to eliminate the July and August monthly meetings during the summer vacation months.
In 1991, the chapter had its first records management seminar at the Ramada Inn with over 70 paid attendees and 12 vendor exhibitors. Roy Blunt, Missouri Secretary of State, was the keynote speaker. In 1992, the chapter cancelled its plans for a second seminar and joined the Kansas City and Saint Louis ARMA chapters to create the All Missouri Records Management Seminar that was later called the Heartland Conference. After several years, it was determined the chapters in Missouri would prefer to host their own seminars going forward and the Heartland Conference ceased to exist.
The Chapter re-wrote its by-laws to meet ARMA International guidelines in 2012.
The Chapter has 3 Honorary Members: Linda Calvert, Wayne Duncan, and Ernie Matson
Craig Kelso received the Wayne E Duncan Meritorious Service Award in 2007.
